Since 2021, methylphenidate (Concerta) and lisdexamfetamine (Vyvanse) have been placed under a national registration system for prescribers, pharmacies and patients.
Registration is what determines whether those medicines can be prescribed — a diagnosis alone is not enough. Atomoxetine (Strattera) and guanfacine (Intuniv) do not require registration.

Already diagnosedIf you were already diagnosed
You can continue treatment here. Testing you have already had does not need to be repeated.
Please bring whatever you have: a report, a prescription, clinic notes, or test results — from Japan or from abroad. Documents in English are fine.
A diagnosis made outside Japan is not automatically carried over. Your doctor will review it with you and confirm the picture before prescribing. In most cases this is a conversation, not a repeat of the whole assessment.
Medication brought from outside Japan
Several ADHD medications are strictly controlled under Japanese law, and the rules on bringing or posting them into the country are not the same as in other countries. Please check before you travel, and do not have medication sent to you by post.

First consultation
Your doctor asks about how you have been since childhood, and what specifically gets in the way now — at work, at home, with money, with time. ADHD is diagnosed from a life course, not from a single questionnaire.
Testing, where it adds something
Psychological testing is carried out in-house by our clinical psychologist where it will help. It is not required in every case.
Diagnosis and options
We go through what the findings mean, what medication can and cannot do, and what to expect. Medication is one option, not the only one.
- Attention difficulties can also come from depression, anxiety, sleep problems or thyroid conditions. Part of the assessment is ruling those in or out.
